RRSA Ambassadors travel to London!
22 young people from Carlton Community College travelled to London during the second week of half term to meet local MP Eric Illsley in a “question time” session at the Houses of Parliament. The trip was fully funded by the Youth Service, after a bid put together in the summer, was successfully accepted. The youngsters, who have been working towards the Rights Respecting School Award, were accompanied by 4 members of staff and a youth participation worker. They were given the chance to widen their experience, knowledge and understanding of how governments operate in the UK and to appreciate the importance of voice and opinion. The group enjoyed two days of activities, ranging from a visit to the Natural History Museum, a night at the Apollo Victoria Theatre to see a performance of “Wicked”, and a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, where they grilled Barnsley MP, Eric Illsley, on topics of education, transport, health and the future of the town as well as national priorities for Britain.
