Carlton Community College, a new learning centre with specialisms in both Science and performing Arts, opened on September 7th 2009.
The learning centre will operate from the two existing sites at Royston, formerly Royston High School, and at Athersley, formerly Edward Sheerien School.
The Building Schools for the Future will provide state-of-the-art facilities that all of our learners deserve. The new site is at Carlton and the building is scheduled to open in January, 2011 which means that we will continue to operate on the two sites until its completion.
Year7 pupils, for the September 2010 intake, will be based at the Athersley Campus for one term prior to the move to the new building.
Close links have been developed between all the schools across the learning community to support the transition of pupils from their primary schools to the secondary phase of their education. Staff plan and work together and have supported year 5 and 6 in their visits to both the Royston and Athersley Campus over recent weeks to help pupils feel more confident and excited about their move to secondary school.
